  1. A:  My take on McLuhan is sympathetic, but not 
  2. uncritical. I think that McLuhan will always be not 
  3. to everyone‚Äôs taste. For example, McLuhan has 
  4. always appealed more to artists and to those who 
  5. had to go out, wanting to do media research and 
  6. understand things and needed some kind of 
  7. inspiring framework or point of departure. He has 
  8. never been in favor with the grim or the politically 
  9. correct. My advice, in fact, to the reader is to 
  10. forget the critics and go back and read McLuhan 
  11. and compare him to what you find in the world. 
  12. The reason I say this is because it is now widely 
  13. agreed that McLuhan‚Äôs critics are hopelessly 
  14. contradictory. You put one beside the other and
